I
was privileged to be part of a milestone event in Medical
history in Australia in 1973 at the Mona Vale Hospital,
Sydney. It was the occasion of the first birth by Acupuncture
Anesthesia in the Southern Hemisphere.
The young woman who gave birth had witnessed
the cure of her mother’s severe osteoarthritis by
acupuncture over a six month period. She was so impressed
she said she wished to have her first baby by Acupuncture.
There was just one major problem, the Medical profession
at that time didn’t believe in it. After much dialogue
with her family doctor he was persuaded to preside over
the birth. Our team of four Acupuncturists commenced needling
at 8.00am and at approximately 8.00pm that night she went
into labor. We took turns to manipulate the needles for
12 hours. Finally the Doctor appeared and presided over
an exemplary birth.
Because it was a “first”
for everyone, the ABC televised the birth. This historical
occasion gave Acupuncture a great lift in the eyes, both
of the public and the Medical profession.
Almost 40 years have elapsed since that
time and Acupuncture has come a long way thanks to American
and European research Auriculotherapy is now Acupuncture
applied specifically to the ears with several major differences.
The ears are hard wired to the brain via 4 cranial nerves
and 2 cervical nerves and with over 200 points on the
ear alone, the points are only active when there is some
disorder present in that part of the body that is represented
in that region of the ear. If there is a symptom such
as pain it will manifest as hot or tender point in a certain
region of the ear.

|
Tenderness increases or diminishes
as the symptoms worsen or improve. The points disappear
when healing and resolution takes place. A major difference
between Acupuncture (body) points and ear points is
the former lie deep below the skin where as the latter
reside in a shallow depth of the skin of the ear just
millimeters below the surface.
The other major advantage of
Auriculotherapy is in the location and treatment
which is done by a point finder which emits a high
pitch buzzing sound when precisely on the point
and treatment is administrated with the press of
a button that delivers stimulation by way of a micro
current for 15 to 30 seconds. No
needles are used.
Who
can be treated by Auriculotherapy?
Any procedure used as standard Medical practice for
the condition being treated can be further enhanced
by auriculotherapy.
It is Particularly
effective for
- Post operative Pain
- Joint Inflammation
- Fractures
- Allergies
- Hypertension
|
|
- Itching
- Nausea
- Tonsillitis
-
Dermatitis
- Frozen Shoulder
- Tennis Elbow
- Sciatica
- Migraine
- Stiff Neck
- Hormonal Disorders
Benefits:
- Fast Effective Pain Relief
- Only the ears are treated
- No needles used- stimulation is by
micro current (15-30 seconds)
- Generally only 6 treatments
necessary
